Microsoft is changing…

Or least changed in the past few years.
You can read a relavent article here .
I know there are still anti-microsoftists out there,
and frankly I was or maybe I still am an anti-microsoftist.
But it is hard to ignore what they did for the computer industry,
how they made their OS has a enormous amount of impact to our lives,
and in fact they have made the computer friendly to the people
who are not computer geeks.

They had some nasty statics in trying to sell products like,
or at least their statics are criticized and sued in,
MS Office, Windows 2003 server, Windows Media Player, IE and other stuffs.
They are also notorious to limit their compatability with other OSs.
(For instance, Windows Kerboros, Services for Unix.)
But after awhile using various OSs like,
Solaris, Linux, Mac OS X and stuffs,
I decided to appreciate what they did for the desktop OSs.

This doesn’t mean that I love Windows.
I really hate Windows when it hangs up once in a while,
when I have to reboot my Windows 2003 domain controller,
and when the registry jacks up.
(That’s why I do not use Windows for MY desktop OS.)
But I appreciate what they done for other people,
how people can play with Windows:
Play music, games, surf the internet.
I often see people smile in the computer lab I manage,
and I cannot deny that if the OS was linux,
they wouldn’t have a good time with PCs.

And most of all, I respect that they are changing.
In a more friendly way, getting more customers feedback.
And finally, these days, I am thinking about joining the
Microsoft Research after I get my Ph.D.
